AMH Custom Knives
Austin, TexasAbout
I'm not a professional bladesmith or cutler, just a dedicated amateur. For my real job, I do scientific consulting work in Austin, Texas.
While growing up in a remote rural area, I made a few blades out of junkyard scraps and mail-order Atlanta Cutlery components. Recently I started again as a way to blow off steam. Below are various examples of modern blades I've made or modified, plus some historical originals.
Antique Blades
I also occasionally do light cleaning and restoration work on sixteenth- to early twentieth-century edged weapons. I make sure to keep these measures to an absolute minimum, removing active rust and tightening loose components but taking care to maintain and seal the natural patina that takes centuries to develop. Recent repairs include a Spanish M1907 Puerto Seguro cavalry sword, a Thirty Years War-era (seventeenth century) continental European Walloon, a mid-nineteenth-century Dutch officer's sword, a U.S. Civil War musician's sword, a Phillippines/South Pacific knife (possibly parang, barong, or bolo type), and an eighteenth-century all-steel European dagger. These and others are shown below.
I am not a dealer per se and am more of a casual researcher and collector, but I do sell original antiques from time to time. Recent sales include a mid-seventeenth-century Scottish broadsword and various nineteenth-century items. Please contact me below for available antiques.
